What We Liked About Aquios FS-220
The one great benefit of these conditioners is that you don’t waste water on regeneration as with salt based systems. When it’s time for a cartridge replacement you simply adjust the water flow to run through the bypass, open the unit and change the filter and switch back the water flow. No wastage and it’s a quick process.
The second reason this can be a better option than a salt based softener is the maintenance cost. The cartridges are more affordable than most salt and resin products.
It’s great that the FS-220 doesn’t only condition water but filters it too. It can block lead which some salt based units can’t do. The FS-220 can also prevent sediment, organic contaminants and chlorine to spoil your water.
What some people love about salt-free units is the texture of the water. You won’t feel the soapiness that a salt based system often produces which makes it better for drinking and showering.
Space is always a concern in home improvement and this is probably one of the most compact water softeners on the market. It’s long and slim which makes it easy to find a space for installation. You can install it outside or in the garage. If you live in a very cold climate, just make sure it’s in a place where the water won’t easily freeze inside.
This unit doesn’t require any power, batteries or an electricity feed. That makes installation easier and it won’t incur any power costs.
It’s super easy to operate since you manage the settings by simply turning the head. You can pick between:
What is Missing?
It’s important to know water conditioning is not as effective as water softening. You’ll experience improvement but not a 100% solution to the problem so you may still get water crystals in your pipes or faucets from time to time.
This is a very simple, low-cost unit which means it doesn’t have fancy features such as warning lights. You won’t know when it’s time to change the cartridge unless you manually measure how much it works or wait until you see (or taste) a change in the water. Alternatively, you should measure how much you use on average every month and use it to predict when it’s time for a new one. If the brand can add a warning feature in future it would make for even more value for money.
The design isn’t 100% durable and it tends to leak. This can lead to unnecessary utility costs.
It can’t handle pressure higher than 100psi. If your system produces higher pressure and you love high-pressure showers you’ll be disappointed to know you’ll have to insert a pressure reducer before you can use this. Helpful tip: You’ll save water when your pressure is a bit lower so this change may be worth the sacrifice.
While this can be a dynamic and cost-effective system costs will quickly add up if you have very hard water. You’ll have to change cartridges often which can become very costly.
There are definite advantages to picking a water conditioning system rather than a real water softener. You’ll love that the water doesn’t feel soapy and in most cases, it’s a cheaper method. With the Aquios FS-220, you have the added benefit that it’s super compact and easy to use so it makes sense that many homeowners find this the best option they’ve tried.
It’s not the best quality water treatment device on the market but this brand is definitely onto something with its innovative, user-friendly design so we hope to see more from them soon.
