Why EcoPure?

EcoPure develops water softeners and filters (sometimes together in the same system) for domestic use. They keep water clean and soft for families in cities and out in the countryside with models perfect for any kind of water.

Their water softeners remove grains from the water, as well as iron particles and other metals. This improves the quality of your water, making it softer on your hair and skin after washing and improving the taste of your water, tea, coffee, and cooking. Unless you order the units with filters included, the softeners won’t take out sediment and other particles. If you already have a filter attached, you should attach the softener afterward.

One of the stand-out features of this company is the warranty. All products come with at least a 1-years warranty, with many offering longer warranty on different components. You can extend your warranty by 2 years or even 5 years by registering your product with EcoPure and using their cleaning solution. They also sell filter replacement and can recommend salt pellet brands that will work well with their softeners.

When it comes to choosing a model, it’s hard to go wrong. Most softening systems are suitable for large households and will work fine even if you’re just living alone. They’re also very similar. Virtually identical. So, make sure you read our reviews below to work out the difference which can be as small as a few thousand-grain capacities.

Put simply, they are a reliable water softener producing company and finding installation support is simple. While their customer service can sometimes leave much to be desired (we’ve heard some poor reports from long-term customers) they do offer an excellent warranty if you’re willing to put in a little effort and register your product.

However, none of EcoPure’s products ended up on our list of best water softeners for the year of 2019.

EcoPure EP31 Review

EcoPure EP31

  • Grain Capacity: 31,000
  • Iron Removal: 8 parts per million
  • Hardness Removal Level: 110 grains per gallon
  • Other Contaminants Reduced: calcium, magnesium, and manganese
  • Household Size: 1 to 4 people
  • Unit Size: 18 x 24 x 46 inches
  • Warranty: 1-year warranty on full parts and labor, 3-year warranty on electronics, 10-year warranty on the tank

The EcoPure EP31 is the smaller of the 2 household-size water softeners from EcoPure (the larger one is coming up next). It softens water and filters out iron, calcium, magnesium, and manganese. This size is great for a family of 4 and will soften your water for the whole house.

There’s a low salt indicator light button that will let you know when you need to replace the salt. It also has a demand-initiated regeneration system that ensures that only salt and water are used when they’re really needed.

As for installing it, you’ll need 110/120 volts power supply (transformer included) and piping with a 1-inch male thread to hook it all up. Some services can install this softener for you but if you already have a grasp on home DIY (or just fancy a challenge) you can have a go yourself using the Do-It-Yourself Installation Kit from EcoPure. It includes the connectors and tubing you need with instructions to install it perfectly.

Cleaning the unit is also simple. If you choose to use EcoPure’s EPCL water softener cleaner you can extend the 1-year warranty on full parts and labor to 2 years.

EcoPure EP42 Review

EcoPure EP31

  • Salt Capacity: 42,000
  • Iron Removal: 11 parts per million
  • Hardness Removal Level: 110 grains per gallon
  • Other Contaminants Reduced: calcium, magnesium, and manganese
  • Household Size: 1 to 5 people
  • Unit Size: 18 x 24 x 46 inches
  • Warranty: 1-year warranty on full parts and labor, 3-year warranty on electronics, 10-year warranty on the tank

The EP42 water softener model from EcoPure is pretty much identical to the EP31 model, except it’s designed to handle more water in a larger/busier household. It still has electronic features, including a demand-initiated regeneration system and indicator light button. The installation kit is the same too.

Both models are great for growing households as they only use as much salt and soften as much water as you need. The EP42 can take you from a bachelor’s life to a family of 5 with ease.

Besides the features that are also available in the EP31 model (scroll up to recap), we thought we’d go over some other things you should know about these EcoPure water softeners.

You can use any kind of high-quality softening salt in these softeners, as long as it’s in pellet format. Pellets are more soluble than large salt blocks and will work faster and more efficiently.

These filters are also certified by the National Sanitation Foundation. The NSF certificate proves that the unit is not only safe to have in your home but is also reliable and well-made.

EcoPure EPHS007 Review

EcoPure EP31

  • Grain Capacity: 31,000
  • Iron Removal: 3 parts per million
  • Hardness Removal Level: 100 grains per gallon
  • Other Contaminants Reduced: lead, chlorine, sediment, calcium, magnesium, and manganese
  • Household Size: 1 to 6 people
  • Unit Size: 18 x 24 x 46 inches
  • Warranty: 1-year warranty on full parts and labor, 3-year warranty on electronics, 10-year warranty on the tank

The EPH2007 model combines a water softener with a filter system to provide a full service. From the outside, the unit looks identical to the EP42 and EP31 models – the same dimensions, the same computerized panel, and the same fittings. On the inside, this is quite a different beast.

In terms of softening, it’s very efficient. 100gpg can tackle hard water easily even though it’s slightly less than the softening only models. The filtration system included removes sediment (making it ideal for well water) as well as chlorine (making it good for city water too), calcium, magnesium, lead, and manganese.

EcoPure recommends you clean the softener and filter combo every 4 months, using their cleaning solution of course. This will stop scale build-up and keep the system running perfectly for longer. Even if it hasn’t reached grain capacity, you should still clean it regularly to ensure it won’t let you down. Yes, it’s a pain. But no pain, no gain. Considering the price tag on this system, you should want to put in the effort to protect your investment!

EcoPure EP7140 Review

EcoPure EP31

  • Grain Capacity: 40,000
  • Iron Removal: 10 parts per million
  • Hardness Removal Level: 110 grains per gallon
  • Other Contaminants Reduced: calcium, magnesium, and manganese
  • Household Size: 1 to 5 people
  • Unit Size: 22 x 14 x 45 inches
  • Warranty: 1-year warranty on full parts and labor, 3-year warranty on electronics, 10-year warranty on the tank

The EcoPure EP7140 (not to be confused with the EP7130 that we review below) is a water softener ideal for family homes. Once again, the features are pretty much identical to other models we’ve already reviewed. There’s the demand-initiated regeneration system to carefully control the unit, ensuring that you only soften the water you need, saving resources and money. Fitting it into your home is also the same. It arrives with the same installation kit as the EPHS007, EP42, and EP31 models and is very similar in terms of dimensions.

So how is this one different?

It’s older by almost 5 years and uses the old-style control panel that you may be used to. This is a good option if you need to replace an old EcoPure model and don’t want to learn how to use the new electronic panel.

It’s also more affordable!

EcoPure EP31

  • Grain Capacity: 30,000
  • Iron Removal: 8 parts per million
  • Hardness Removal Level: 110 grains per gallon
  • Other Contaminants Reduced: calcium, magnesium, and manganese
  • Household Size: 1 to 4 people
  • Unit Size: 22 x 14 x 45 inches
  • Warranty: 1-year warranty on full parts and labor, 3-year warranty on electronics, 10-year warranty on the tank

Well doesn’t this look familiar.

The EcoPure EP7130 is identical to the EP7140 – they even come with the same manual. The only difference is the capacity. This model holds slightly less grain before it needs emptying/cleaning and can support a small household of up to 4 people. Just like the other models, you can expect the electronic panel with salt-saving technology and the same installation kit.

You should consider this model if the EP7140 model is unnecessarily large for your water use/household size. You could save a bit of money by choosing this option instead.

We would recommend using the more recent models (tech has been improved and generally customer service at EcoPure is more interested in helping issues with newer models) but this is still a functioning, efficient water softener to choose.
